Elementary and Secondary
An excellent public school system operated by the County provides education to area school children grades K-12. Special programs for academically gifted and handicapped students are available. The Bedford Science and Technology Center offers an outstanding vocational education program to area students including drafting technology, electricity, electronics, business data processing, and automotive technology. The center works in cooperation with local business and industry as well as Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg to develop and enhance curriculum. Bedford County Schools

Community Colleges
Central Virginia Community College-Bedford Extension, Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke offer two year programs in the arts and sciences as well as instruction in a variety of vocational-technical fields, including the ISO Certification Program and Total Quality Management Program.
Colleges/Universities
A number of excellent colleges are located within one hour of Bedford including Hollins University, Liberty University, Lynchburg College, National College, Randolph College, Roanoke College, Salem College, Sweet Briar College, and The Roanoke Higher Education Center. Ferrum College, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg are within two hours drive.
