Leadership Bedford students gain skills to be successful at work and home!

Leadership Bedford students received self-discovery training during the month of December with two all-day classes learning about the “ABC’s of Success” with Rebecca Sturm-Clauser of Directional Coaching Inc.  Surrounded by nature’s best at the Claytor Nature Study Center, students got back to basics as they learned the steps to attract more success in their lives!  Students even got learn some ecology and history with a tour of the farm that hosts the study center’s research opportunities.

Following the workshops, students received an inside view of local industry with tours of Brooks Food Group and Sam Moore Furniture.  Following both of the extremely interesting and informative tours, students gained further insights from leaders themselves with an Industry Executive Panel.  Jim Mercandante of Cintas Corp., Joe Were from Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Paul Overstreet from Sam Moore Furniture were on hand to provide their leadership tips, experiences, and background of their industries.

Following the holiday break, Leadership Bedford students will return in January to fine-tune more leadership skills and learn their personality types by using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.  There will also be opportunities for students to learn about health care issues in our area and meet with our area legislators in Richmond to discuss current legislation in the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates.

Leadership Bedford is now in its 17th year and is a program designed to allow existing and emerging community and business leaders to fine tune their skills while learning about the community and building cohesive professional relationships that can last throughout their careers.  Sponsors of the Class of 2011 are: Centra, Century 21 All-service, and AFLAC/L.R. Robey Agency.
