Kim J. Snow, Controller of the Elks National Home in Bedford, was presented with the 2007 Athena Award by last year’s Athena Award recipient, Nancy Johnson.
The award was presented during the annual Women of Influence Luncheon, held at Boonsboro Country Club.

While Kim has been Controller at the Elks National Home, she  demonstrated her leadership capabilities by simplifying many of the financial areas at the Home by establishing an archives room and setting up a new accounting system. She is a life long member of Main Street United Methodist Church, serving on many community committees. Kim helped start the Reality Store program for Bedford’s Middle schools. Kim has held most of the office positions and chairmanships as a member of the Bedford Business and Professional Women, where currently she is President Elect of BPW/VA Foundation, which has a “Scholarship House” at Old Dominion University to offer housing for seven women who would not otherwise be able to attend. As an adult graduate of Radford University, Kim has set an example for other women, who may entertain going back to school after being in the working world or raising a family.

Originally an agrarian-based economy, Bedford’s industrial development began in 1880, and since that time, industrial growth has been consistent and often fostered by the involvement of local citizens.
