Transportation Advocacy Group

The mission of the Transportation Advocacy Group is to advocate for chamber members regarding all modes of transportation and funding thereof, including but not limited to, primary and secondary roads, air and rail. 

 Goals:

  1. Advocate for short-term and long-term improvements to Route 501 as identified by the 501 Coalition
  2. Advocate to maintain the current state funding formula
  3. Advocate for the funding of specific projects
  4. Advocate for the primary and secondary priorities approved by the Board of Directors
  5. Advocate for public and assisted transportation
  6. Advocate for rail service, both passenger and freight
  7. Advocate for improvements in regional air service

Objectives:
  1. By August 31st, find a way to reach the governor's office or other representative regarding the transportation budget
  2. By September 30th, explore the possibility of registering Susan Martin as a lobbyist
  3. Invite both the Lynchburg and Roanoke air port managers to speak to the transportation committee before year-end
  4. Invite both Amtrak and Norfolk-Southern to present to the transportation committee before year-end
