National D-Day Memorial: The National D-Day Memorial has launched its Flames of Memory project for the 67th Anniversary of D-Day this year. The Flames are luminaries, hundreds of which will be placed along the Necrology Wall on the night of Saturday, June 4 in tribute to the D-Day fallen as well as others who have served our country. Each luminary costs $20, or 6 for $100; all gifts are tax-deductible and all proceeds benefit National D-Day Memorialoperations and other programming at the Memorial. Luminaries can be purchased in honor or memory of anyone, D-Day veteran or not, and businesses or organizations are welcome to purchase quantities.

The Memorial will be open until 10PM on the night of June 4 to allow visitors to view the Nighttime Illumination of the Necrology Wall. The wall bears the names of all Allied D-Day servicemen killed in action on D-Day, the only place in the world to do so.

The Memorial is hopeful that pairing the two ideas honoring fallen soldiers and living veterans at the same time will appeal to sponsors. Its the opportunity to honor our fallen and serve our living heroes at the same time.

All luminaries sponsored by May 15 will be included in a printed program to be distributed on the evening of June 4. If you are interested in sponsoring a luminary, please call the Foundation at (540) 586-3329
