Chamber Conducts Ribbon Cutting for Otter Peaks Alpacas ![]() If you've never visited an Alpaca farm, here's your opportunity! John and Cindy Ferrante are owners and operators of Otter Peaks Alpacas located at 2398 Union Church Road in Thaxton. The Alpaca Farm was the scene of a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 21st. Native New Yorkers, The Ferrantes bring a different breed of animal farming to Bedford County, but it's not that unlike other farms in our area. The animals require a lot of attention which is, for the most part, provided by Cindy. She has been known to spend the night in the barn with a sick animal, or to bottle feed a new baby whose mother cannot provide nourishment. The Paca Barn also holds an interesting array of alpaca items that includes hats, gloves, sweaters, novelty items, and the softest ever cuddle toys. If you're interested in learning more about alpacas and their by-products, the Ferrantes will be so pleased to introduce you to this growing industry. Call them at 540-540-587-6766 Otter Peaks Alpacas will also host an Open House on Friday and Saturday, October 22 and 23rd. Come meet the alpacas - they're cute!
